Gangs are said to have originated as far back as the 1830’s (Scott). The Blood gang in particular, which has become more and more common in the Southeastern region of the United States, originated in west Los Angeles in the mid to late 1960’s and founded by Sylvester Scott and Vincent Owens. Their primary objective was to rid the streets from the threat of the Crips, which are their biggest rivals. They wear red, which indicates the term “Bloods.” They are also known as Pirus, which is the name of the street where they were formed.

Rapper Lil Wayne openly admits to being a strong member of the Blood gang.
